Some idea for diaper cakes if you are planning a baby shower:

Diaper cakes are the "must have" at baby showers these days. Every new mom delights in receiving this unique gift, that is also pracitical. This past year I threw a baby shower for my sister with a few of her friends. My sisters personality is classy and elegant. I knew this baby shower had to be on the fancy side, with a little cute thrown in. Since my sister was having a girl and was naming her Lacey Marie, I decided to do a play off her name and went with a sweet pea theme for the invitations and shower. (Welcoming a little sweet pea, Lacey Marie) I custom made the invitations and wrote a little poem to give it a special touch. For the shower decor we set up 8 round table tops with linen and did tulle overlay with 2 tier diaper cakes as centerpieces on each table. I also made favor boxes that went with the color scheme of the shower (pink and green) and had those around each centerpiece on the tables. The room almost looked like a wedding reception. Instead of having a guest book for everyone to sign, I kept one of the invitations I made and had it matted so that everyone could sign a special message for Lacey and family. This was a great touch and keepsake. My sister had it custom framed and it's hanging in the Lacey's room now. I also made a 3 tier diaper cake with hydrangeas and had that displayed on her gift table and another diaper cake for the table we had which displayed a 8x10 framed maternity picture my sister had taken of her. We had diaper cakes everywhere! What's great, is my sister was able to easily take them apart and had over 200 diapers just from the cakes I made her, not to mention all the bags of diapers she received as gifts. My mom, Grandma, and I had bought so many cute outfits for the baby, that we decided to hang a clothes line on the wall and pin the clothes up to be displayed, it came out so cute! It's a great way to decorate any baby shower. We used the cutest outfits and tried to keep it as pink as we could!! It was darling! The food was delicious. Thankfully one of the cohosts husbands has a catering business so they provided the food at cost and it was beautifully displayed and so yummy. We even had chocolate covered strawberries (my sisters favorite). We didn't do your typical baby shower games. Our other cohost came up with some really entertaining games, which were a huge hit. If you've ever played Cranium, you can just take the same concept but make all the games baby related. The games were hilarious, and had everyone cracking up. We kept it to just 3 games, as we didn't want the games to overtake the shower and there were A LOT of gifts to be opened. My sister got so many beautiful gifts, and a lot of handmade things as well. It was a great shower, my sister thanked everyone at the end of opening presents and was moved to tears. It was a success, my sister said the shower was beyond what she could have ever fathomed. Oh, and one of her friends was helping her get the baby room organized, and while they were taking the diaper cakes apart, her friend came up with a genius idea! Instead of throwing away the beautiful ribbon that was used in her diaper cakes. They made hair bow hangers out of them and hung them up in the nursery as part of the room decor. They also used them to make bows on some of her little storage bins...the color scheme went perfect with the room. When my sister showed my all of Lacey's little hair bows clipped on the ribbon that I used for the diaper cakes, I was so pleased. What a great idea, once again something creative, practical, and pretty!! Of course, if the diaper cake would have been for a boy, then I guess the ribbon could be used for the storage bins, but not so much for hair bows!! :-) I have posted a few pictures from my sisters baby shower. I hope this helps give some inspiration to those who are planning a baby shower. If you have any questions or want advice, feel free to drop a comment or if you have thrown a baby shower as well and would like to share some of your creative ideas, we would love to hear from you!
